Sometimes I wish I could do more when it relates to volunteering, advocacy and making more of an impact and difference in the lives of animals. I look back before marriage, before my daughter was born and wish I would had put my free time to better use. Now, here I am...32, divorced, and blessed to be a mother, blessed to find love again, and I work full-time at home as a medical transcriptionist all while managing to keep up with my daughter's Girl Scout troop and stay active in her school's activities. Yet I still want to do more.
Not too long ago, I found a craft that I actually was good at and enjoyed. So Glass Creations was born. Little did I know eventually this would lead me to fulfill my wish of helping animals. About 4 years ago I met an amazing person named "Tim Hemmes" online. Though I've never met this man in person, he's a very dear friend. Through his own trials, heartache and challenges he created something beautiful in memory of his beloved pit bull "Sidney". He created Pittsburgh Pit Bull Rescue http://www.pittsburghpitbullrescue.com/ It occurred to me that perhaps my new found talent could someway help others and Tim instantly came to mind. I offered to create pit bull themed glass tiles and through my site on Artfire 25% of pit bull tile related sales would be donated to his rescue organization. We agreed and began the process through Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. It has been a great success and all overnight! I was overjoyed that I was helping his rescue and people were complimenting my creations. Through this process I've had 3 more rescues express interest in wanting me to offer the same opportunity to them with my glass tile necklaces, as well as a rescue I reached out to. I'm helping save lives and making their lives more comfortable by doing something I love. I'm helping rescues gain attention that they deserve and need. All it takes is a purchase of something beautiful and something beautiful is returned; an animal given a chance.
Who would have thought it would all start from a glass tile?
